The Project that TOTALLY crashed!!!
Together with SKOR (Stichting Kunst in de Openbare Ruimte) and Imagine IC (identity & Culture),me (Jonas Ohlsson) and Daniela Bershan did an audio tour of Bijlmer.Mostly geared towards people who didn't live in Bijlmer, but might be curious enough to come over to check it out.We decided to play with ALL the stereotypes that white honkies often have about the Bijlmer and its inhabitants.
With an edge of course but also with (to us at least) obvious humor and love. If anything the anger, vitriol and controversy in the songs was directed towards white grachtengordel stereotypes of Bijlmer, racism and Dutch autochtoon historical denial.
This project became a political hot potatoe in Bijmer and after 4 years of remakes, endless discussions and fights Imagine IC decided to drop the project (accept it as finished) but NOT to show it.
They thought it was too controversial and NOT funny!
Never have we worked so hard for something that we totally believed in just to see the project totally flop. In short the idea was that you would walk through Bijlmer with headphones and listen to a number of songs and at the same time finish a Audio Tour Quiz.
All the anwers to the questions could be found by just snooping around and walking about in the Amsterdamse Poort. If you got 8 out of 10 questions right you would win a compllation CD of hip hop from the very great local scene from Robert Coblijn's excellent record label Bijlmer Style.
Well now you can judge the whole project for yourself...
And if you get 8 out of 10 questions right, you can pick up the CD at our next event. PS...the upside of this project was that we got to know almost everyone being busy in the creative scene in Bijlmer, so BIG Love goes out to:
Robert of Bijlmer Style, Gikkels, Hopi Boys, VLT, Kiddo Cee, Mo & Brakko, Dret & Krulle, Jane Doe, Marvin and Samen Sterk records and Jeff and Sara of Vingers.
YOU ARE A HUGE INSPIRATION TO US ALL...We'll keep the fire burning!!!
LONG LIVE BIJLMER AND ITS RAW SPIRIT!!!
May the small mindedness and infantilism of many of the cultural institutions IN Bijlmer and political powers OUTSIDE of Bijlmer die a quick death.
