Magnus Monfeldt

I was born and raised in a small town called Avesta, located in the valleys of central Sweden. At the age of 16 I went to Uppsala where I studied advertising for three years. A friend in my class was a good painter, and very popular with the ladies, so I thought I’d give art a shot. I never looked back. Well, I guess I did in a way. How does a memory take shape and where is it contained? Is it our fear of losing ourselves that causes us to fabricate memories or are these recollections incomplete and incorrect due to lost neural connections in our brains? What makes individuals remember differently while sharing the “same” experience? These questions I keep asking myself in order to better understand what happens in, and around me. Influences from lived experiences, from various sub-cultures, music and movies have lodged themselves in the swampy territory of my memory. And that’s where you’ll find me, neck deep, pushing the muck back up to the surface of my art (see also www.magnusmonfeldt.com).
